The Monopulse Experience

As a child, Allan Hendry was a hi-fi enthusiast of the kind who developed an active interest on how things worked.

Over and above the fact that many loudspeakers use 2 or more drive units for best results, Allan became increasingly aware that such loudspeakers created a significant problem....With split frequencies going to dedicated drivers, the output of these drivers would arrive at the listener at different times, causing distortion.

In nature, however, sound waves occur as one tight packet of energy, without said distortion – and therefore, are perceived by the brain as real. Generic loudspeaker designs, Allan became convinced, were simply flawed.

As Allan became an electronics engineer in the aerospace field, his work on advanced, phased-array, radar systems gave him the notion there had to be a way of improving this design process.

In May 1993, as a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, Allan Hendry clearly defined his technical intentions by registering the brand name "MonoPulse"; the ojective : to cover an impulse-accurate hi-fi loudspeaker design he intended to create.
